My 1st Japanese Manga

Saturday, September 20th I decided to tackle Anime Weekend Atlanta.  It’s about a 6.5 hour drive from my house and I could only spend Saturday away from home and my studies, but I figured it would be worth it to make the journey.

Most of our time (my son and I) was spent between the Dealer’s Room and the Artist’s Alley.  Many pictures were taken and much merchandise was bought.  Among my purchases: my very first Japanese language manga.  Technically speaking, the first manga I’ve ever  bought for myself in ANY language.

D.N.Angel is the story of Daisuke Niwa who turns into an alter ego, phantom thief, Dark, whenever he thinks about his high school crush, Risa Harada.  D.N.Angel chronicles the adventures of Daisuke-kun as he tries to cope with the instability of his transformations into Dark.

I managed to watch the anime version of D.N.Angel several months ago, and thoroughly enjoyed the series.  My first perusal of the manga, however, had me with a dry mouth and sweaty palms.  Side effects, I suppose, of my irrational fear of jumping into reading Japanese with both feet.

But jump, I must, and although I haven’t made it much past the first few pages, I’m feeling much better about taking that first step.  I’ll let ya know how it turns out.
